The Artisitic Neighborhood of Santa Tereza is easy to reach: you go up from Largo do Carioca with the historic streetcar, called "Bonde" after it's inventor. The streetcar makes his way over the Arcos da Lapa, an ancient aquaeduct from the 16th century, and then runs through the winding cobbled streets, passing by colonial style mansions and huge gardens.

You go out on Largo dos Guimarães, central point of the enchanting neighborhood, where you find a baker, a Café and "Cine Santa Teresa ", a small Cinema with excellent Brazilian and International films. If you pass along the street, you'll find a lot of charming, nostalgic bars and restaurants, most famous of all "Bar do Mineiro ". "Bar do Marcô" has Bossa Nova Jazz on Fridays, from noon. There are plenty things to discover, above Largo dos Guimarães you find a book shop an café "Largo das Letras".

Santa Tereza has been attracting artists and musicians all the time. If you go out at night, you will find traditional Brazilian Music like Samba, Choro, Chorinho and also Bossa Nova and Jazz. The atmosphere in the small bars with live music is very special.

Located in the heart of Rio, it provides ready access to the Christ statue of Corcovado (within one of the largest urban forests in the world) as well as to the city centre, sambadromo and beautiful beaches. With an atmosphere reminiscent of that of a small town, it enchants visitors with its panoramic views of the ‘Marvellous City’, offering a variety of options for eating out from local dishes to international cuisine.
It is within this setting that Casa Aurea will receive you into a family environment in the Brazilian ‘bed and breakfast’ tradition, with a warm Carioca welcome.

The Bonde Street Car in Santa Teresa PDF Print E-mail

This street car is all that remains of what used to be the principal form of transportation in the city. Starting in Lapa, by the Cathedral, cross the towering viaduct And through Santa Teresa. Then you have the option to take the ride all the way to the top of the hill, or get off to see the Museu da Chácara do Ceu. The views from the top rival those of Corcovado and Sugar Loaf.
